Her journey

A trained and practicing midwife since 1999, a committed Christian and deaconess in charge of Sunday school in her community, she is today the Founding President of the NGO Love, Health, Education for Women – Côte d'Ivoire (ASEF-CI).

Why she founded ASEF-CI

From 2008 to 2018, Mrs. KOUDOU worked in the gynecology ward of Yopougon University Hospital, dealing daily with the treatment of gynecological cancers. She got to know these women with cancer, supported them throughout their illness, and carried out her own personal research over 10 years.

What she observed on the ground · 2008–2018
  • The most common cancers in the ward were breast and cervical cancer
  • Patients were between 23 and 69 years old — young, active women, mothers
  • The vast majority arrived at an advanced stage of the disease, often too late
  • Many came from inland towns and rural areas, far from healthcare
  • Most did not have enough income to cover the cost of treatment, leading to dropped treatments and preventable deaths
Faced with this physical suffering for patients, this moral suffering for families, this financial hemorrhage from the high cost of treatment that sometimes leads nowhere, something clicked in me: to raise awareness earlier and more regularly among the population about these diseases. — Mrs. KOUDOU, Founding President
